]]>When it comes to a wedding or most big celebrations, the photographers only get one chance to get it right. They cannot keep getting through the same process and have to make sure all the right moments are caught on time. They should be sure about the process and understand what aspects of the marriage they plan on incorporating in their shoot before the wedding day begins.
We were working with many clients over the last couple of years and received a decent understanding that there can be many issues through the process. One of the most common issues people go through is the lack of communication between the team or several people unsure about the process before the wedding. We also noticed many errors when getting through the process and started documenting the most common ones so that others do not make them again. The whole point is everyone getting through the process and moving ahead without this becoming an issue.
1. Making assumptions
Both brides and companies can fall prey to this because events that take place hiccups create an air of confidence that can leave a bride in the dark. Make sure you ask pertinent questions.
Is there adequate power?
Is the internet available?
Is the speed adequate?
What are the Arrival Times, Event Start Times, Departure Times?
Are there any breakdowns in time frames?
Can there be issues with the GPS directions or Traffic patterns and issues?
If a bride is made aware of company needs, she can have them addressed beforehand. Stressing a bride on her wedding day is never good. Assuming anything about the venue, although it might be the most common thing all venues provide, can be challenging if it has to be used and they cannot compromise on it. You would have to send someone to get it which can also be quite challenging and cause a delay.
2. Communication breakdowns
If people do not touch base the day before the wedding, they might be in for some surprises. Things change, and allowing the bride to tell you what they are can relieve a lot of stress. It's also a time to go over the details one more time. From the initial time that a schedule was discussed to the day before a wedding, there are enough things that could have likely changed, and you want to make sure you can get through the process. You should get the final schedule a day before the day and even talk to the bride and groom and ask them all the questions to make sure everyone is on the same page.
3. Choosing the right songs, but the wrong version or artist singing the song
Everybody cuts a copy of the best songs, and they might easily overlook who the artist is. It might not be an issue, but it can be. Do you want instrumental-only versions? That is often an unasked question. You have to make sure the DJ is playing all the correct versions of the songs that you wanted on the biggest day of your life. While some people might not be too picky about the music, there are others, and we noticed that this is the biggest thing for them, and there is nothing else that they would care about as much.
4. Not clarifying gear requirements
Make sure you specify crowd size because a tiny PA outside may get buried by street noise or restaurant banging noise. Make sure your cables are long enough. How far do I need to stretch out the gear? Will I need a wireless mic? Does the pastor need a mic to be heard? You should be talking to all the vendors and other teams at the wedding and asking them if they have any requirements so they can be accounted for when creating the rider. There are other changes that they would have to get through as well.
5. Not explaining expectations
What is the big picture of the day’s experience? If you can verbalize what a perfect day looks like, there is a much higher likelihood of reaching the target. When the exact information about the day is made clear, everything works itself out. There are other changes that they would have to get through to make sure that everyone is on the same page. If both the bride and the groom made their stance heard, the others would be in a better position to understand the situation and know how to react to it accordingly.

1. What should I tell the DJ if there are songs I don’t like?
Before you tell the DJ to remove songs that you don’t like, ask his opinion about those tunes. They could be old classics, which are often the party starting favorites that are needed to get an event going. As everyone knows the music or the moves, they are more willing to take to the dance floor, so taking them off the list may cause unintended consequences.
2. Should the DJ address attendees’ behavior?
The DJ can’t be the security and the entertainer. It’s always a good idea to have an off duty police officer present if alcohol is getting served at the venue. It will protect you and your guests.
3. Should I tip the DJ?
Just as in any occupation, If you tip DJs, it will encourage them to give better attention to your requests. DJs get bombarded with requests during a four-hour show, and it’s impossible to have all the songs played. Giving the DJ a tip will secure your music on the playlist. ]]>1. Incorrect placement of a microphone
Most technicians get so involved in equalizing an incoming signal that they miss the point of microphone placement. If the incoming signal sounds terrible with the equalization flat, begin checking with the room’s sound and the distance the mic is from where you’re recording. Another possible reason may also be that the stereo imagery using multiple microphones on a single source is creating phase issues. It’s best to experiment by moving the microphones around and recording samples to see what sounds best. You may also try different types of microphone brands until you find the tone you are looking for. The last step is equalization.
2. Not testing room acoustics
Start with a room that doesn’t have many ambient sounds unless you specifically want those sounds. Room acoustics add unnecessary artifacts that will have to be equalized out. Usually, the lesser the reverberation, the better. However, with modern digital consoles, you have an option to experiment with effects to create the room reverb you like.
3. Having no direction
When you come into a recording session, get an idea of what you will be recording instrumentally and vocally ahead of time. Map your time well and have musicians lined up, so you don’t wear yourself out or upset your client. Time is money.
4. Taking on too many opinions
Determine whose opinion matters the most, and then please them accordingly. You will receive as many opinions as there are colors. So, ensure you choose to please the client and not get involved in the rut of remixing and then remixing some more.
5. Not knowing the equipment
Learn what those buttons and knobs do before going out on any paid gig. Practice with your garage band before you step into the world of paid gigs. A reputation is better built correctly than repairing a damaged one.
6. Not knowing your client
Get to know the expectations of who you are running sound for or recording. You need to emphasize on their priorities as they pay you!

As a creative and musically inclined teenager, I would spend most of my younger days generating fun beats. My parents were supportive of my passion and would often lend me money to buy gear and gift me equipment whenever I asked.
In high school, I decided to set up After Hours Production in 1982 as a creative outlet to entertain people and earn some money. I would get in front of a crowd and spin music to liven up the atmosphere and help people dance. To propel my career and business to the next level, I felt the need to create an energetic environment with music and interactive entertainment.
Delivering a new level of high energy entertainment services for a range of clients resulted in an increase in business. I then hired a team of DJs and expanded my service offerings. From a single individual, we have now grown into a company with multiple DJs, videographers, photographers, and equipment installers.
As a professional business, what sets us apart from others is that we focus on providing the most value for clients that invest in us. Moreover, as a devoted Christian, I run my business with the belief of loving everyone and serving others before myself.
What is fulfilling about this job is knowing that our music, video, and photography services are bringing joy to people. It is also incredibly satisfying to hear clients tell us they were happy or thrilled with our services.
